The Matters Around Meaning

Meaning shapes attention, choice and identity. It influences how we see ourselves and how we move through the world. I’ve always been interested in how meaning is created and why it carries the weight it does in our lives. For many people, that awareness begins in adolescence, when you start noticing culture instead of simply absorbing it.

Why This Matters for Students

Young people move through language, images and media constantly. They feel the effects long before they can name them. English and Media give them space to pause, look closely and understand what’s shaping their responses.

What They Learn to See

Adolescents already question and read between the lines. In these subjects, that instinct becomes a starting point. Students learn to see how a text positions its reader, how a narrative sets its terms and how visual and digital cues guide meaning.

My Focus

I want students to understand how meaning works so they can navigate their world with more clarity and intention.
